The price

The practice rooms are free.
All five, forever.

Written 31 August 2026, amended 5 September 2026 to say what practising with a teacher is. This page is the record of it.

The practice rooms are free. All five, forever.

Harmony, Melody, Rhythm, Sheet Music and Composition. Every level, no limits, no trial, no card. Your progress saves, on every device you sign in on, for as long as you want it. This does not become a paid product later.

When I add things where a person is giving you their time, my time, live sessions, courses, video, and practising with a teacher, those will be paid, or may be. The practice rooms never will be.

James Carter, 31 August 2026. If I ever cannot keep this running, I will say so at least six months ahead and give you everything you have made, in a file you can keep. What I will not do is put these five behind a price.

The five, by name

A promise about "the tools" is not a promise, because nobody agrees what the tools are. So here they are, named, and the sentence above covers exactly these and nothing more. These five rooms, in this order, are the Artform Method, and the whole of it is free.

Every level of every one of them can be finished, to three stars, without watching anything or buying anything. Progress, streaks, stars, cloud sync and family profiles are part of that and always will be. A person who never pays me a cent keeps every star they earned.

What is paid, and why

Anything where a person is giving you their time. My time. Live sessions, where the room has a size. Courses, which are months of work sold once. Video made to sit beside the rooms. And practising with a teacher, below, once it leaves beta. Those are paid, or may be, and they are named here rather than announced later.

Nothing that is inside the rooms moves behind that line. That is the whole point of dating this page.

If you learn with a teacher

Practising with your teacher is the part of Artform Studio where a person can see you. Your teacher sees what you practised, sends this week's work into the app, and marks your checkpoints. It is in beta with a small number of teachers, and it is free while it is.

When it leaves beta it may carry a price, met either by the household or by the teacher as part of their lesson fees. Which of those, and how much, is not decided, and it will be said here first.

The rooms do not move. Every pupil keeps all five, free, whether they practise with a teacher or on their own. Stopping with a teacher sends nobody back to zero: the record, the stars and the streak stay. A teacher's own tools, the register and the class view, are free for teachers.

The sheet music library, which is a separate and weaker promise

The Sheet Music room is free forever, and I want to be honest about the difference between the room and what is in it. The scores come from public domain and openly licensed sources, and the day may come when a piece has to be removed because somebody with a better claim to it asks. That is not a price, it is a licence, and it is the one thing on this page that is not entirely in my gift.

So the library gets its own floor, said plainly: every score in it today stays free, for as long as it is legally mine to give. I will not put the library behind a price. I may one day have to make it smaller.

If I ever cannot keep this running

Every "free forever" from one person has the same unspoken ending, and it is not a paywall. It is the site going quiet. So that ending is covered too: at least six months' notice, and everything you have made handed back in a file you can keep.

What this page does not promise is a service running until the end of time, or an answer to every email. It promises notice, and your work back. Both of those are things one person can deliver on a bad month.
