Not finished yet

I am still recording Nuvole Bianche: the part everyone recognises, arranged to fit your hands. It is close, but it is not ready, so I am not going to pretend you can have it today. It is the first of the ten in the Method, and it goes to this list the day it is done.

One list, one email when there is something worth telling you. Nothing else.

In their words

Seventeen years of teaching.
These are their words.

James Carter at the piano

The educator

Teaching music like a composer.

Australian pianist, producer and educator working between neoclassical piano and subtle electronica. Seventeen years of teaching the instrument, the songs, and the skills under your hands, now shaped into a process for turning those skills into music of your own, outside the conservatory system.

“In the neighbourhood of Einaudi, Richter, Beving. But in your own handwriting.”

The Artform Method · by James Carter

Five rooms.
All of them free.

Artform Studio is one place to become a musician, not just to learn a song. Four literacies to practise, and a room for writing your own.

Four literacies at once rather than one song at a time, walked in this order for a reason. That is the method, and it is the one I teach in person. Artform Studio is where you practise it, free, every room.

The five rooms of Artform Studio on a desktop: Harmony with the keys lit gold, Melody's circle of fifths in the sage room, Rhythm's twelve rungs, sight reading in Sheet Music, and a two-hand score in Composition
Real captures of the live app · every room free, on whatever keyboard you already have
James Carter · Harmony

01 · Harmony · the cream room

Chords, and the songs they came from.

The keys you need light up and the rail moves with the beat, so you always know what is coming. Fifty-five levels across all twelve keys, and every rung ends in a real song.

James Carter · Melody

02 · Melody · the sage room

Scales you can actually improvise with.

Every scale with the fingering a teacher would give you, marked as you play. Then an Improv room where you use it over songs you already know.

James Carter · Rhythm

03 · Rhythm · the dark room

The pulse, kept in gold.

Twelve rungs from a single beat to a rhythm in each hand. Every gallery has one dark room, and this is ours: you play it with the lights down.

James Carter · Sheet Music

04 · Sheet Music · the navy room

Five lines that hold everything.

Real scores that follow you as you play, every symbol taught as a deck, and a library you can bring your own music into. White paper glowing on deep blue.

James Carter · Composition

05 · Composition · the white room

Then you write your own.

The blank canvas at the end of the corridor. Everything the other four rooms taught you, pointed at a piece with your name on it.

The price

The practice rooms are free. All five, forever.

Harmony, Melody, Rhythm, Sheet Music and Composition. Every level, no limits, no card. Your practice saves, on every device you sign in on.

Practising on your own is free, forever. Practising with your teacher, where they see what you played and set your week, is in beta and free while it is. That is the part that may one day be paid. These five never will be.

James Carter, 31 August 2026. If I ever cannot keep this running, I will say so at least six months ahead and give you everything you have made, in a file you can keep. What I will not do is put these five behind a price.

The Artform Method · in production

Ten masterpieces.
One method.

Stop chasing a piece through tutorials for months. You play the version that sounds beautiful from day one, and the technique arrives while you play it. Every arrangement is written by me to fit your hands.

Learn these ten and you stop learning one song at a time. The same few shapes sit under hundreds of pieces.

Filming now

It is not finished, and I would rather say so than sell you a waiting list dressed as a launch. Leave your email and you will hear first, at the founding price. It is the same list the free piece goes to.

You will need a piano or keyboard and a little history with one. Brand new? Start in the free rooms; a week in Harmony will tell you honestly.

Start here

Sit down and play,
today.

All five rooms are open and free right now. Nuvole Bianche and the Artform Method are still being made, and they go out by email the day they are ready.
